In the Batavian village one can experience the life and times of the common Batavian. Several crafts are practiced, in which visitors may try their hand as well. Thematic weeks are organised, during which a special subject is highlighted. Examples of these themes are the fabrication of iron and forging it into billets, a pottery gala with a selection of ceramists working with traditional techniques, a harvest feast where all are invited to help with the crop. The village with its buildings is the backdrop for craftsmen, farmers and their animals and other elements from everyday Batavian life.
Visitors experience this through watching, feeling, listening, smelling and tasting. Some of the houses are furnished to show how the people lived and worked, but one of the houses is set aside for visiting schools, who may spend the night there.
In and around the Batavian village events will be held, such as a Batavian market with contributors from all over Europe, showing and peddling their wares.
